FRIED EVERYTHING! “Out of this World” is this year’s theme for the San Diego County Fair. The fair officially opens to the public at the Del Mar Fairgrounds starting on Friday, June 8 and continues for almost four weeks until Wednesday, July 4. This year, they’ve got some new grub coming your way, including The Lobster Shack with steamed red lobsters from Maine and the Pineapple Express with Maui chicken sliders, fried spam sweet & sour, and shrimp cocktail! SO GOOD! Goodbye fried, chocolate covered bacon. Hello gourmet!

In case you didn’t know, the San Diego County fair is the sixth largest fair in the country with more than 1.4 million visitors annually! (Yes, I am saying that our city is better than most) The fair includes extreme foods of all sorts, rides for all ages and levels of bravery, as well as shops and animal exhibits. Last time I went, I won a goldfish, stuck it in a Jack Daniels bottle, and it lasted longer than I had expected. #winning. No, but really. Go, have a good time and be prepared for it to be hot outside! And please, whatever you do, wash your hands after you go through the petting zoo. We know you will since no one can resist a cute little lamb or horse.

Here’s a tip though, to save some extra money check out these options on the deals & discounts page. You can also bring your own lunch, but to be honest, a big part of the fair is the food!
